It wasn't as if Moxy Maxwell hadn't tried to do her summer reading. If Stuart Little wasn't in her backpack, it was in her lap . . . or holding up the coffee table . . . or getting splashed when Moxy went swimming. But now it's the end of August–the day before fourth grade. And if Moxy doesn't read all of Stuart Little immediately, there are going to be "consequences." Of course our heroine does manage to finish her book, falling so in love with it that she finds herself reading under the covers with a flashlight, late into the night.

In these two stories, 9-year-old Moxie Maxwell discovers that putting off onerous tasks has--in her mother's words--"consequences." In the first story, Moxy has avoided her required reading all summer, and now she must complete STUART LITTLE if she wants to participate in the Great Daisy Routine, a synchronized swimming performance. In the second, she puts off writing her thank-you notes (to be completed before taking an exciting trip) with some creative attempts at time-saving shortcuts. The youthful-voiced Clea Lewis hits just the right notes. She delivers fully imagined portrayals of exuberant, irreverent Moxy as well as Moxy's irritatingly organized twin brother and her beleaguered mother.
