In this tender rhyming picture book, a mother readies her child for bed. Their nighttime ritual includes bathtime, brushing teeth, hugs, and a storybook read aloud. Once tucked under the covers with stuffed animals, the child is lulled to sleep, watched over by her night-light and puppy friend. This is a wonderful bedtime story with sweet text by Deborah Lee Rose, complemented by the warm illustrations of Dan Andreasen.

A quiet rhyme follows a little girl through her nighttime routine. The yawns begin on the very first page and are contagious. A little girl, her puppy, a toy and even the picture on the wall all have their mouths stretched wide open: "Stardust sky and silver moon / Someone's sleepy / Bedtime soon." She takes a bath, puts on her pajamas, brushes her teeth and gets tucked in tight. The lulling text highlights different parts of the body, prompting parents to gently touch each part (maybe even with a kiss) during sweet bedtime read-alouds. "Sleepy shoulders / Sleepy knees / Sleepy through-the-window breeze. // Sleepy teeth and sleepy lips / Sleepy toes and fingertips." Warm jewel tones and cozy crosshatching, along with heavy lids and those oh-so-realistic yawns, give Andreasen's illustrations a comfort just right for bedtime. There will never be a magic book that puts every child to sleep, but this hushed cadence is certain to soothe. (Picture book. 2-5)

"Sleepy teeth and sleepy lips/Sleepy toes and fingertips/Sleepy quilt tucked all around/Sleepy world of nighttime sound." This soothing story, which includes graphite, ink, and digital illustrations of yawning pets and toys, will remind children that bedtime is a time for quiet and dreams.-Tanya Boudreau, Cold Lake Public Library, AB, Canada

Preschool-K The fish, the dog, the toys, and the photographs on the wall are all yawning. Indeed, someone is definitely sleepy, and that someone is an adorable red-headed toddler. Bouncy rhymes ( Sleepy quilt tucked all around / Sleepy world of nighttime sound ) follow the little girl's bedtime habits of bathing, putting on pajamas, brushing teeth, and getting tickled, tucked in, and kissed by her mother. In the background, the girl's charming puppy watches over her and begins his own nighttime preparations. As soothing as the text, Andreasen's digitally enhanced graphite-and-ink illustrations depict the girl's bedroom on a large scale, facilitating small eyes to see and small hands to point. The final double-page spread features the little girl asleep and dreaming, with recognizable items from the book's earlier scenes floating above her. With her mother's help, a sleepy little girl gets ready for bed. Saccharine rhymes ("Sleepy hands and sleepy feet / Sleepy neck that smells so sweet") convey bath time, teeth-brushing, kisses good night, and getting tucked into bed nestled snug with stuffed animals. This lulling bedtime story's pastel-colored graphite, ink, and digital illustrations are stiff but appropriately soothing.
