Germer (clinical instructor, psychology, Harvard Medical Sch.; founder, Inst. for Meditation & Psychotherapy) has written a superb introduction to mindfulness meditation, a technique promoting focusing on and accepting of one's feelings and thoughts. Germer introduces "metta," a practice extending mindfulness to achieve loving-kindness, the ability of treat oneself and others with love and kindness, especially when it is difficult to do so. Verdict: This brilliant manual demonstrates how by accepting and embracing emotions, one can move to a higher plane of harmony with oneself and others. Interspersed with supporting data from psychology experiments, this book provides practical, life-changing self-help techniques and suggestions for further readings and practice. Highly recommended.-Lynne F. Maxwell, Villanova Law Sch. Lib., PACopyright 2009 Library Journal, LLC Used with permission.
