Cash McLendon faces off against stone-cold enforcer Killer Boots in a final showdown in this rousing Western adventure from the New York Times bestselling author of Buffalo Trail—winner of the TCU Texas Book Award.
Cash McLendon, reluctant hero of the epic Indian battle at Adobe Walls, has journeyed to Mountain View in the Arizona Territory with one goal: to convince Gabrielle Tirrito that he’s a changed man and win her back from schoolteacher Joe Saint.
As they’re about to depart by stage for their new life in San Francisco, Gabrielle is kidnapped by enforcer Killer Boots, who is working on orders from crooked St. Louis businessman Rupert Douglass. Cash, once married to Douglass’s troubled daughter, fled the city when she died of accidental overdose—and Douglass vowed he’d track Cash down and make him pay.
Now McLendon, accompanied by Joe Saint and Major Mulkins, hits the trail in pursuit of Gabrielle and Killer Boots, hoping to make a trade before it’s too late...

The Cash McLendon trilogy wraps up with this rousing story of revenge. Those not familiar with the previous two books, Glorious (2014) and Buffalo Trail (2015), need only know that, in 1872, Cash's father-in-law put a bounty on Cash's head (unfairly). Since then, through the first two books, Cash has been on the run, trying to stay a few steps ahead of the ruthless assassin Patrick Brautigan and to find the woman he loves, Gabrielle Tirrito. Now the worst has happened: Brautigan has caught up to Cash, and Cash has a terrible choice: whether or not to risk his own life to save Gabrielle's. Set against a Deadwood-style backdrop (Silver City, a bustling Western mining town in Arizona Territory) and featuring a real gunslinger (a preOK Corral Ike Clanton) as a supporting character, the book is sure to appeal to fans of the first two novels, but, since the author provides the necessary background, newcomers will have no trouble jumping right in. Plenty of action for genre western fans but enough meat for a broader cut of historical-fiction readers.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2016, American Library Association.)
