Fun-loving schoolteacher Tessa Stanridge needed a way to stay in Hill Creek—fast! Suddenly, like a gift from God, a white knight in the form of accident victim Drake Slater came to her rescue. The moment she saw the handsome rancher, she knew he was a man desperately in need of her loving care—just as she knew her life would never be the same.
Drake was out to prove he was every bit the same rugged loner he had been before his accident. Trouble was, with Tessa around, even that wouldn't be enough. Now, it wasn't just that he wanted to learn to walk again—Tessa was the kind of woman who made a man want to be better than he was. And for this man, Tessa was turning out to be the best medicine of all.

Continuing her series based in Hill Creek, TX, Wolverton (For the Love of Mitch) introduces Tessa Stanridge and Drake Slater. Tessa allows Drake, who was injured by a bull on his family's ranch two hours from town, to stay in her home so he can be close to medical care. As Tessa adds Drake to her menagerie of animals she takes care of, Drake questions her about God. In his 40-some years of life, he's never been particularly religious, but something happened when the bull attacked that he needs Tessa's help to understand. Although certain characters would have been better explored through their own books (which may be forthcoming) and one plot point is revealed twice, Wolverton offers a solid addition to for series fans. Recommend to readers of Barbara Jean Hicks.
