Jemma has always lived in Agromond Castle with her parents and siblings--or so she thought. But on her thirteenth birthday she discovers their grand deception. The people she thought were her parents kidnapped her to harvest her magical powers. Now Jemma must escape the mist that surrounds the castle to locate her real parents and defeat the Agromonds. Rosalyn Landor's narration presents a distinct cast of characters with memorable voices. Her lilting reading evokes the magic that surrounds Jemma. But Jemma's continual protestations of desperation are overly repetitive, and so is the story's dialogue. At times, Landor is able to engage the listener with the promise of Jemma's destiny, but she can't entirely rescue an overlong story with a melodramatic heroine. C.A.
